To the south from the city of Alaverdi there is the majestic Odzun temple (6-th – 7-th ). Despite its age Odzun has survived in perfect condition and nowadays the temple is one of the marvelous attractions of Lori. The stone temple is a rectangular monolith of a building with four cross-shaped facades crowned with a high dome on faceted drum.

The dome is topped with openwork cross. Its smooth facades are deprived of decor. This type of churches are called basilica. From the northern and southern sides of the temple there are arched galleries – a rare feature of Armenian temples architecture. Grass-grown Odzun basilica is one of the best examples of Armenian domed basilicas. There are a number of khachkars around the temple.
